Smoke alarms woke up a Kent family at about 12:18 a.m. Monday to an electrical fire in the master bedroom of their home in the 24600 block of 101st Place.
The residents used a fire extinguisher but the fire continued to grow, so they evacuated the home and called 911, according to a Puget Sound Fire media release.
Firefighters from Fire Engine 74 contained the fire to the master bedroom.
Residents are receiving help from the American Red Cross as the smoke damage was throughout the upstairs sleeping areas.
In addition to Puget Sound Fire units, South King County Medic One responded to check the family members and provide support to the fire crews.
