I have been spending some time handicapping races recently. First, the Longacres Mile that is coming up at Emerald Downs Aug. 21 and also the paths of a few up and coming south King County politicians. There are a lot of similarities between handicapping political races and horse races. You have to understand form, fitness and the conditions of the race. Getting into the right race at the right time is the key to winning. Not that I have ever actually bet on a horse race, of course. Well, maybe a few times.

The Kent Municipal Court arraignment hearing for the medical marijuana business owners was waived Wednesday, Aug. 10. According to Charles Lambert, owner of Evergreen Holistic Center, his attorney, Douglas Hiatt, entered a not guilty plea and court proceedings will be scheduled at a later date.

A 58-year-old Kent resident, Daryl Cranshaw, died Friday evening after being struck by a train on West James Street and 1st Avenue North. According to Cranshaw's daughter, Kesha Calhoun, he had just returned from work at the veterans hospital located in the Beacon Hill area of Seattle. Cranshaw had gone to a grocery store and was on his way home to his wife of 37 years, Mary.

Kent city attorney files misdemeanor drug charges against medical marijuana business owners

The other shoe finally dropped. Kent City Attorney Tom Brubaker filed charges Wednesday in municipal court against the owners of two medical marijuana businesses. According a city release, the city filed “five drug counts (each) in violation of state law” against Deryck and Colamba Tsang, owners of Herbal Choice Caregivers at 19011 West Valley Highway, and Charles Lambert, owner of Evergreen Holistic Center at 204 Central Ave.

Kent Police investigating car show shooting with 12 injured and no suspect in custody | Update

A shooting at a car show on the West Hill of Kent Saturday afternoon left 12 injured and no suspect is in custody at this time. Kent Police officers arrived 23311 Pacific Hwy S at 4:15 p.m. to find a large crowd with eight victims. According to Sgt. Jarod Kasner seven were transported to area hospitals and one declined aid.
