Lake Meridian development project inches forward, court battle continues

A controversial proposal by developer Bill Floten to build 27 homes on the banks of Lake Meridian took one step forward last week. The Kent City Council voted 5-1 July 1 to approve a rezone application by Floten to allow six homes per acre rather than 4.5 homes per acre on the 6.3-acre site on the lake’s northwest shore at 25840 135th Lane S.E. But the development remains tied up in King County Superior Court on other matters connected to the proposal.

Kent mechanic keeps city’s rides running smoothly

It’s easy for the city of Kent to find a good mechanic. Robert Stone works as one of four vehicle-repair staffers at the city maintenance shop on West James Street just east of Russell Road. He helps keep nearly 565 city cars and trucks running smoothly as part of the fleet division of the Public Works Department. Stone helps make sure residents as well as city officials benefit from his work.

Kent man charged in assault of female patient

King County prosecutors on Tuesday charged a 31-year-old Kent man with second-degree rape for allegedly raping and impregnating a physically and mentally disabled woman at a Kent assisted-living facility.

Blotter: Man arrested after threats to woman

Police arrested a man for investigation of harassment June 11 after a woman reported that he had made threatening comments to her as she waited with her children for a bus at 10:40 p.m. June 11 in the 1200 block of Central Avenue North. The man also claimed to have a gun in his vehicle, she said.

Kent opts out of plan for new regional jail

City of Kent staffers have decided to drop out of a group of South King County cities that want to build a new regional jail. City officials decided the current Kent jail could serve the city’s needs for the next several years without spending as much as $13 million on a new jail.
