Occasionally The Kent Reporter publishes letters from citizens who have strong opinions about the Kent School District (or in some cases multiple rambling opinions that don’t seem to be based on actual knowledge).

Universal health care not worth it

Mr. Aman recently had a letter published in the Reporter, wherein he questioned some points I made in a previous letter regarding the health-care bill. ("Health-care letter questioned," by Richard Wesley Aman, Feb. 10 Kent Reporter.)

The Reporter gets some interesting letters! Reader Maxson recently had a letter published in which she was fearful that “U.S. government intervention will render the same disastrous results as nationalized health care has in other nations.”

Surcharges would help the state

In response to Sen. Keiser's newsletter I suggested to her the lawmakers set up a surcharge on the state's portion of our property tax. I paid $3,400 in tax for my home.

I was deeply disturbed by today's story about the East Hill Elementary School's planned multipurpose room and Kent Meridian High School gym's potential delay, K-M gym project could see delay. The district made a commitment to the students, staff and parents at these schools and now they are reneging.

Des Moines man sentenced for threats against Boeing, Shell Oil, Chevron Oil

A U.S. District Court judge Friday sentenced a 47-year-old Des Moines man to seven years in prison, five years of supervised release and $231,100 in restitution for 19 felony counts in connection with threats he made against the Boeing Co., Shell Oil and Chevron Oil.
