People lined up around the outside of the 85°C Bakery Cafe on Friday morning, awaiting the chance to be among its first customers.

The Taiwanese bakery chain opened its first Washington location on Friday at Tukwila’s Westfield Southcenter.

Founded in 2004, 85°C Bakery Cafe operates with the goal of providing high-quality products at affordable prices.

Every store offers 60 types of breads, ranging from Asian to European styles, and more than 40 types of cakes and various beverages. As a fast-casual bakery and cafe, 85°C utilizes a self-serve bread section where customers pick their favorite items. Top selling products include brioche, marble Taro, iced sea salt coffee and mango crème brule.

The name 85°C refers to the bakery chains founder Wu Cheng-Hsueh’s belief that 85 degrees Celsius (185 degrees Fahrenheit) is the optimal temperature to brew coffee.

Tukwila city officials, community representatives and 85°C employees joined Alex Carlson Helo, Miss Washington USA 2017, for a ribbon cutting ceremony.

“This is our first flagship store in the Northwest,” Charles Wu, operating director of 85°C, said in a media release. “We are honored to be baking and brewing in Tukwila, Washington. We cannot wait to offer our service and products to the rest of the nation.”

The company said it hopes to open additional stores throughout the state this year.

The business is publicly traded in Taiwan with more 900 stores worldwide, including Taiwan, China, Australia, Hong Kong and the U.S.

The Tukwila location, 1341 Southcenter Mall, Tukwila, is open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday and 8 a.m. to 10 p..m. on Sunday.
