Kent businesses and organizations are wanted to join the fourth Annual Kent Turkey Challenge to collect donations for the Kent Food Bank.
The drive begins Oct. 6 and ends Nov. 20.
“Our goal this year is to reach 4,000 pounds of food and $17,000 for the Kent Food Bank,” said Torklift Central general manager Matt Lynch. “With the help of local schools, organizations and businesses, we hope to achieve this goal and provide a happy Thanksgiving dinner to families in the Kent area.”
The first three Kent Turkey Challenges fed more than 4,500 families and raised more than $34,500 and 6,400 pounds of food combined. The Kent City Council will once again support the event through an official proclamation Oct. 21.
Torklift Central is hosting the event and will drop off donation boxes to participating businesses beginning on Oct. 6.
Kent businesses are challenged to compete against each other to collect food and monetary donations. Donation boxes and related materials are provided to each business at no charge. Businesses have the option to sell paper turkeys for $10 as another way community members can participate in the challenge. Customers can write their name on the paper turkey for the businesses to hang on their walls and display their progress.
Several businesses and organizations are already on board for the challenge, including the Kent Business Expo who agreed to include the Turkey Challenge as part of their event on Oct. 9 at the ShoWare Center. Participants can donate food or money toward the challenge during the expo.
Kent Food Bank relies on the business community and the annual Kent Turkey Challenge to help ensure a memorable Thanksgiving for local families that would otherwise go without.
“We are excited to see the Turkey Challenge grow year by year,” said Lynch. “As a community, it is important that we collect as many donations possible to help out local families.”
Businesses interested in participating can contact Torklift Central marketing director Katie Brown at 253-720-1969 or Katie@tlcentral.com.
