Novinium selects its vice president of engineering

Mark Newton, Ph.D., has joined Novinium as vice president of engineering, the Kent-based company announced today.

Mark Newton, Ph.D., has joined Novinium as vice president of engineering, the Kent-based company announced today.

In his new role, Newton leads the engineering group and champions Novinium’s product development. He joins Novinium with more than 20 years of experience inspiring innovation in technology, research, operations and corporate leadership.

“We are excited to have Dr. Newton lead our engineering group,” said Glen Bertini, Novinium’s CEO. “His experience commercializing new technology platforms will accelerate the expansion of our technology portfolio and continue our commitment to innovation.”

Previously, Newton spent more than 17 years at W.L. Gore & Associates, where he held influential research and global leadership roles. His position as a technology champion improved efficiencies and accelerated research, resulting in the development and long-term growth of company platforms such as GORE-TEX® XCR®, GORE-TEX Surround Technology, and Gore Bike Wear.

Newton has been published in the Wall Street Journal, Fortune, The Times, and Men’s Health, regarding new products and scientific research. He has participated in industry standards boards, round tables, and has authored more than 10 scientific papers and journal articles.

Newton holds three European patents for materials testing apparatuses. He received B.Eng. degrees in Aerospace Engineering and Business from Kingston University, and a Ph.D. degree in Environmental Physiology from the University of Portsmouth. Newton continues to mentor aspiring scientists and for the past four years has been an honorary lecturer at the University of Portsmouth.
