For the Reporter

Larysa Krishchuk is picking up the pieces, building clientele as she tries to make a go of it as a first-time proprietor.

Krishchuk, a licensed massage therapist, assumed management of a once financially-troubled spa on the East Hill.

Elle Day Spa abruptly closed four days after Christmas, putting Krishchuk and fellow employees out of work. The owner said he could no longer stay in business because he was paying legal fees, stemming from a lawsuit in which a woman accidentally fell and hit her head in the spa.

The sudden closure upset customers, especially those who were promised services and gift cards that were no longer valid.

Krishchuk decided to step in.

With the support of her family, she redesigned and re-opened the spa in March. She was able to retain some customers, even offered price-reduction specials to those who lost gifts received during the holidays.

Vivian Clinical Day Spa is named after her three children – Vitaly, Victoria and Anna – in portmanteau fashion.

The spa, located at 12911 SE Kent Kangley Road, specializes in treating stress, pain and injury. Massage therapy, facial treatments, waxing and lash and brow tinting are among its many services.

“This is my calling,” said Krishchuk, a native of Ukraine who has lived here for 17 years. “I wanted to continue to work and connect with people. … The customers like it here, and they like the new look.”
