We all took our first steps into high school four years ago. Some may have started their high school career here at Kentlake. Some may have started at Kentwood, or maybe even some school in Texas.
But now we all sit here as the Class of 2009, graduating from Kentlake High School. With four years behind us we can all officially say we are done with high school. For some it may be bittersweet, it might be a little scary, and for some of us it might be a extremely relieving. The one thing we all know is that we will at some point look back and remember the challenges we have faced, the struggles we have overcome, and the many memories we have all created.
Dr. Seuss once said, “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You are on your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy who’ll decide where to go.”
We look at the beginning of that quote and realize that we have all made our own choices throughout the last four years. The choice to get involved in different events, the choice to study for that big AP test in Shepard’s class, and the many choices we have all made outside of school. When it comes down to it, those choices have led us to who we are today.
Some may walk out of here with plans of moving out of their parents’ house this summer. Some may walk out and go straight to that big four-year college. Some may stay home and work. Some may go to a two year college. But there is one thing we all have in common right now. We all are at a point our life where we are the ones who are deciding where it is we are headed in life. We are all deciding where we are going. The funny thing is this quote doesn’t just end our high-school career.
It begins the rest of our lives. Because we do have brains in our heads, feet in our shoes, and we are all steering ourselves in the directions we choose. We are on our own now, and we know what we know. Now as the Kentlake Class of 2009 we are all deciding where we will go.
