I am writing about the ludicrous idea the City Council has about selling the par 3 golf course.
The sale is in violation of its comprehensive ECD plan. The golf course is outside the Economic Development District, where the city is trying to get a downtown density of 15 people per acre. We don’t need another strip mall and another large apartment complex. They are a dime a dozen. Green open spaces are priceless.
This will not help future development of the downtown area. With the growth that is going on in Kent we will need these areas to help make Kent a livable city.
Many of the council members ran on the ticket that they were against more of this type of development.
This property needs to stay in the hands of the Parks Department. This could be turned into play fields or a park, which have disappeared and no longer attract Kent citizens.
