Kent’s new superintendent cashes in

I wish to congratulate Kent School Board President Debbie Straus for her recent, expertly negotiated, three-year contract for Calvin Watts, Kent’s new school district superintendent.

I wish to congratulate Kent School Board President Debbie Straus for her recent, expertly negotiated, three-year contract for Calvin Watts, Kent’s new school district superintendent.

Watts’ $250,000 a year salary is $76,383 more a year than Gov. Jay Inslee, who, as we know, is only responsible for every school district in the entire state of Washington.

In addition, Watts’ salary is only $150,000 a year less than the president of the United States, who we all can agree handles more pressing day-to-day matters than a city’s school district.

If I were the governor of the state of Washington or the president of the United States, I would seriously consider stepping down from my office and apply for a considerably less demanding but no less lucrative position within the Kent School District.
