Let’s save our precious par 3

Fore! This is the sound you don't want to hear on the golf course. It's a warning following an errant shot that is heading in your direction.

Fore! This is the sound you don’t want to hear on the golf course. It’s a warning following an errant shot that is heading in your direction.

The Kent City Council is firing an errant shot without a warning, with the possible sale of the Riverbend Par 3 course to developers. Their intention is to (possilby) put in condominiums, a strip mall and parking lots. Picture what the west entrance to Kent on Meeker Street will look like. No view of mountains. No green grass or shrubbery, but plenty more tall buildings, neon signs and traffic.

No, I don’t believe the council or the mayor will be hollering or advertising this terrible move of giving up serene beauty of a park-like setting for money. This was not what the city forefathers had in mind when they set this priority aside to be shared with its town folk and surrounding communities.

If you would like to keep our public golf course, please write a letter to the Kent City Council expressing your feelings on this decision. Tell them what the golf course means to you and the importance of an affordable public golf course in our community.

Address letters to: Kent City Council, 220 Fourth Ave. S., Kent, WA, 98032, or call 253-856-5712.
