I’d like to respond to the two letters to the Kent Reporter (July 22, 2009) regarding Sarah Palin.
I read the editorial by Laura Pierce (“Sarah Palin and the viper pit; nice job, GOP,” July 7. I thought Ms. Pierce simply thought Sarah was not qualified to be vice president; however, had also not been assisted well by the McCain staff. I’m not sure how that translates to “liberal diatribe,” or how someone could think Ms. Pierce “hated” Sarah, but, to each his own, I suppose.
I’m happy that Ms. Seegmiller thought Ms. Palin made sense in her resignation speech. I sure wish she had spent the remainder of her letter explaining it to others. It made no sense to me. Alaska voted for her to serve her term; I think she should honor this commitment.
According to the Alaska personnel board, Alaska has incurred nearly $300,000 in expenses thus far defending Palin against ethics violations filed against her. Of this, nearly $200,000 was spent defending Palin against the ethics complaint she filed against herself. Palin defenders conveniently forget about this. Three hundred thousand dollars is not exactly “over a million dollars.”
Ms. Seegmiller asks, “Can you name another public figure . . . more viciously attacked?” The Clintons? George Bush? She must have a very short memory to think they got off lightly in the media. As for family, ask John McCain and Rush Limbaugh, for starters, how they trashed Chelsea Clinton. Further, doesn’t she know President Obama and his family have consistently been the subject of hateful, nasty, racial, incendiary attacks and comments for a long time now?
That is true that normally things quiet down after an election. Not much has been heard about Sen. McCain or his family since November. However, Ms. Palin seems to have picked up an addiction to being in the limelight. If you court the media, you get it – along with all the subsequent baggage it brings. If you tend to business, turn down media interviews and lie low, you’ll probably get some peace and quiet. Seems to work for other candidates.
And Mr. Kerr, no one I know “hates” Ms. Palin. We may disagree with her, we may not think she’s intelligent enough to be vice president, but we certainly don’t hate her. How about the way you think and your bad language? You referred to the president of the United States as a “Commie-crat golden boy”? How is that appropriate? I do believe you should watch for your own nightmares.
