The upcoming election has some important races to pay attention to, and the Kent School Board is one of them. I urge people to take the time to get to know the two candidates, and I think you will come to the same conclusion I have.
For almost 14 years, I had the pleasure to work for the city of Kent, serving as the Human Services Commission secretary for 10 years.
Bailey Stober is still unqualified to hold the position of Kent City Council member.
My name is Bailey Stober and I am running to serve you on the Kent City Council. I know folks are tired of the political rhetoric and stump speeches so I thought I'd just tell you, directly, why I am running.
The upcoming November election is going to affect Kent homeowners in significant ways, depending on who sits on the City Council.
I'm endorsing Tim Clark for our next mayor of Kent because of the depth of experience he brings to the well-being of Kent and our fellow citizens.
On Nov. 5, the voters in Washington state will decide whether or not to require food manufacturers to let consumers know if the products they sell contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs).
The city's action with the sex offenders is both harmful and shortsighted. Forcing them out of the clean and sober housing, where they have been living successfully for years with zero problems, accomplishes what?
As a relatively new resident to Kent I have been intrigued by the seemingly one-sided negative coverage of the City Council race between Bailey Stober and Ken Sharp by the Kent Reporter.
It was surprising to read Andrea Keikkala's guest commentary ("Transportation package is needed for our economy", Kent Reporter, Sept. 6) make the claim that transportation dollars were going all over the state with no thought to overall economic benefit.
I've read with great interest the recent letters objecting to the fireworks free-for-all that occurs every year in Kent. I share the concerns for pets, safety, fires, etc. expressed in them. To these concerns I'd add the impact of fireworks on wildlife.
Once again it's that time of year when the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts will be out selling popcorn to raise funds for their activities.
Bailey Stober's entire resume is at best an embellishment. He has held at best three or four positions in the past three years of no note or responsibility worthy of consideration to qualify to hold any position on the Kent City Council.
I really got a chuckle out of the editorial cartoon ("Gun free zone") in the Aug. 23 issue. Even though it was amusing, it teaches a lesson, as it was meant to — and the lesson is a "no brainier" as the old saying goes.
So Mr. Ken Sharp, who is running for Kent City Council and got over 40 percent of the primary ballots, is accused of stealing from his mother. His defense is that he planned to pay it back. He hasn't and his mother has been moved to a less desirable location.
The current Kent City Council is loaded with pro-business/anti-homeowner members. Councilmembers Dana Ralph, Elizabeth Albertson, Les Thomas, Bill Boyce and Council President Dennis Higgins consistently vote in ways that favor businesses and burden homeowners.
Many of us here in Kent live in apartment complexes close to several neighbors and their families. It seems to me that a few can easily make it difficult for others.
I just wish to thank the Kent firemen for helping when I recently fell on the Safeway sidewalk.
The State of Washington has an opportunity right now to expand our ports and to secure the region's position as a global trade leader for decades.
I am supporting Bailey Stober for Kent City Council because I believe Kent needs people like Mr. Stober with a plan and vision working for us.
