National Volunteers Week April 18-24 celebrates the spirit of service to others in communities across the nation.
I just want to say thank you to Laura Pierce for her column on bullying ("Cost of bullying? A teenager's life," April 2 Kent Reporter.) We really need to talk more and let kids know it is not right to bully anyone.
Mrs. Obama is complaining about how many times a day or night the president and Oprah converse on the phone or e-mail.
It is really a source of concern that Oprah and Obama are spending so much time communicating to each other.
If the garbage/recycle haulers could retrofit their trucks to pick up both garbage and recyclable items in the same trip, it would certainly minimize the impact to our streets, fuel consumption, noise, and thus, and save another city use fee for them, and hopefully for Kent citizens and customers.
In the State of Washington, high-school seniors are required to present a culminating project to a panel of community members and school staff.
Sometimes you don’t know whether to laugh or cry at the wastefulness of the government at all levels with our life’s resources!
Our Sen. Patty Murray is blatantly wasting our money. Murray has been sending mechanized phone messages from our Nation’s Capitol. The message is either informational or political.
Kent-Meridian Cat Lovers volleyball team is very thankful to Sam Harris - the Kent Emerald City Smoothies store owner.
I noticed a fellow trying to blame our troubles on George W. Bush but he forgot to tell the whole story. yes, Bush should have made the housing financial problems public even though the Democrats controlled Congress.
It should be brought to the attention of every voter in this state that on Feb. 10, 2010, our votes and our voices were deemed illegitimate, unimportant, and irrelevant to 83 percent of Democrats in the Washington State Senate.
Occasionally The Kent Reporter publishes letters from citizens who have strong opinions about the Kent School District (or in some cases multiple rambling opinions that don’t seem to be based on actual knowledge).
Mr. Aman recently had a letter published in the Reporter, wherein he questioned some points I made in a previous letter regarding the health-care bill. ("Health-care letter questioned," by Richard Wesley Aman, Feb. 10 Kent Reporter.)
The Reporter gets some interesting letters!
Reader Maxson recently had a letter published in which she was fearful that “U.S. government intervention will render the same disastrous results as nationalized health care has in other nations.”
A note to thank those who voted "yes" for the Kent
Schools replacement levies. Your votes say that quality education is a priority in our community.
In response to Sen. Keiser's newsletter I suggested to her the lawmakers set up a surcharge on the state's portion of our property tax. I paid $3,400 in tax for my home.
Folks, elections do indeed have consequences, as we have seen in the 5-4 Supreme Court ruling on "Citizens United..." affirming corporate "personhood." Each of the justices, in the majority, was appointed under a Republican administration.
I was deeply disturbed by today's story about the East Hill Elementary School's planned multipurpose room and Kent Meridian High School gym's potential delay, K-M gym project could see delay. The district made a commitment to the students, staff and parents at these schools and now they are reneging.
I just finished reading your column on page 4 of today’s edition of the Kent Reporter newspaper “Powerball and Slim Jim: Deadly,” by Laura Pierce, Jan. 30 Kent Reporter.) Right on!
How do the residents of Kent like their new Utility Billing rates? We opened our current Utility Bill from the City of Kent, and our jaws dropped.
I strongly disagree with John Kohler's inaccurate and prejudiced letter in the Jan. 30 Reporter imploring area voters to vote against the maintenance and operations and technology levies that are critical to maintaining level funding for all students in the Kent School District (KSD).
