Thank goodness for Glenn Harrison’s inquiry about church use of public school property (“Why can church use public school?” page 6, Dec. 2 Kent Reporter.)
There is nothing wrong with the schools renting for any use including commercial or community as long as the renter is paying market rates for the space and covering costs of utilities, custodial service, etc.
In regard to the page 1 Dec. 12 article “Law community turns out for tribute.”
The four assassinated Lakewood police officers did not die in vain. They’ve lost their precious lives in the service of others.
They’ve courageously responded the call of Horace Mann, one of Americas greatest educator, who once said, “Be ashamed to die until you have won some victory for humanity.”
In the aftermath of the recent assassinations of Police Officers from both Seattle and Lakewood (and the injury of an officer trainee), many of us find ourselves asking “why?”
Can someone please enlighten me as to why the Kent School District is allowing a particular religious group, or any religious group, to hold their service in a publicly funded facility, namely “Kentridge High School,” for the church’s own gain and expansion?
Once again, “Veterans’ Day,” with all its celebrations, has come to a close.
I am writing this note as a U.S. Navy “Seabee” veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theater.
I know that tough budget decisions need to be made, but I continue to be shocked at how King County treats the 4-H program and now plans to eliminate it altogether.
What are the Federalist Papers and how do they relate to the Constitution of the United States of America and the Declaration of Independence?
I will be the first one in line to decry any censorship by our mass media but is there some editorial power that can be exercised? I certainly hope the Kent Reporter gets more letters than the 4-6 per issue it publishes.
Next year can potentially be the worst year ever when it comes to providing needed health and human services to the Kent community and all of King County.
Recently I ran across a handwritten copy of a story that I was told this summer by my friend David Gosnell. It is about a man who defended American freedom. I thought your readers would benefit from hearing his story.
Do you wonder if perhaps Boeing is enhancing its political footprint with the dealings on the East Coast?
I heard it reported on TV yesterday that if the massive Renton sewage plant floods out, household water supply to as many as 800,000 people may be shut off by authorities in order to completely stop the in-flow of sewage to the Renton facility.
Mark your ballot for Dennis Higgins for Kent City Council Position 4.
Dennis has a successful track record of leadership in our community and is rated very good by the Municipal League of King County. Dennis encourages people to participate in the political process whether or not he agrees with them.
The fact that Boeing is going out of Washington State has long been prophesied by many of us in Boeing.
Last week, I attended the debate between the Kent mayoral candidates that this newspaper sponsored. Since Mr. Berrios is at the helm of the Kent School Board as its president, a question about the Kent teachers strike was asked.
There are more questions than answers regarding the proposed annexation of the Panther Lake area to the City of Kent. I reside within the proposed annexation area and operate a small business there. I am not convinced I will be better off as a resident of Kent.
I am in disbelief at the story published in the Kent Reporter's online version on Monday, Oct. 26, entitled: "Business related to Kent Mayor Suzette Cooke files for bankruptcy."
Two south King County cities about to be Hoodwinked! Normandy Park (NP) and Des Moines (DM) Parks and Recreation propositions would create two new permanent taxing bodies just like the Port of Seattle (POS).
I offer my sincerest apology to Mayor Cooke. In a public statement I made at the Scenic Hill Neighborhood Council Candidate Forum, on Thursday, Oct. 15t at the Senior Center.
We are pleased to announce that Councilperson Julia Patterson has this week endorsed the annexation of the Panther Lake area to the City of Kent.
