Studies have shown that there is a gap between men’s and women’s salaries in the workforce. Although the magnitude of the gap has varied throughout the years, it has been constant.
There are many theories out there as to why this is and how to stop and/or prevent it. There are many people in Kent alone who are impacted by the wage gap. I believe that it’s important that the citizens of our country are aware of the difference of pay between men and women.
I believe that if our society was more informed on the current statistics of this gap, they would be able to do something to eliminate it.
The global gender report ranks the United States at only 31st out of 128 countries for economic participation and opportunity, political empowerment and health for women. These results may point to possible reasons as to why women aren’t getting the pay and recognition that they deserve.
The global gender report also reveals that the percentage of female legislators, senior officials and managers fell from 46 to 42 percent from 2006 to 2007. Maybe if women made up a greater percentage of decision-making roles, they would have pay equality.
