I hope I am getting this straight. We need a petition filed, requiring 8,361 registered voter signatures to put Mayor Suzette Cooke’s 35-percent raise on the ballot; and these are voters who pay taxes to fund that raise. But as it is now, five commission members – appointed/chosen by Mayor Cooke and council members – can approve hers and their raises, but they do not fund the raise.
Any raise, especially one of this magnitude, should always be put to a vote of the people who pay for it.
Is this a great city or what? It seems so easy for these five “commissioners” to squander other peoples money.
