Reader is glad to see Backstrom column in Reporter

We are conservatives and were delighted to read Walter Backstrom’s letter to the editor in your newspaper.

I am glad to see you have balanced coverage, unlike the Seattle Post-Intelligencer which is mostly left-wing. We used to subscribe to the South County Journal and miss its timely and BALANCED articles.

We appreciated Mr. Backstrom’s candor. It is so hard to be a conservative these days without being intimidated, threatened, attacked, ridiculed, or berated in every way possible. He is a principled and courageous man who is willing to stand by his beliefs and candidates no matter how difficult things can be.

We respect him for this, and we thank you for printing his letter. Nowadays it seems as if conservatives can no longer voice their opinions without putting themselves, their families, their jobs, and their property in jeopardy. We did not dare wear any attire that supported John McCain/Sarah Palin as we did not want our cars keyed or our property damaged. This is so unfortunate in a society which seems to value free speech.

Thank you for allowing free speech in your newspaper.
