Reader muses on Friday the 13th

Did you survive February 13th? They are saying that 2009 has more “Friday 13ths” this year than ever before, and some say it is bad; however, I had some friends out to eat at Maggie’s on Meeker when I heard someone mention it…

Years ago, when I had a gift shop in the Pike Place Market, I met a real bonafide witch who cleared the truth about Friday 13th and, in fact, thought it was the “luckiest” day of any month. She said that to believe otherwise was bad for those who should have known better.

It was through her I learned Seattle had seven real covens, which was a group of 13 witches and Seattle at that time had seven real COVENS. She showed me the secret hand signals used by covens when introduced to other witches, and things I never learned in college.

She showed me how to cast a “spell” and how to break one. She even introduced me to several warlocks living in Kent at the time, and how to notice things to prove they were warlocks…. Some were even local politicians at the time … she tried to convince me of the difference in Which-witchcraft and Black-witchcraft … much of it I could never ever fully understand, but Fridays 13th had a special meaning to them…

Anyway, there are a couple more Friday 13ths in this year, so carry your good-luck charms with you. I often wonder how it ever began, but then there is a lot of things I never learned in college, so who knows?
