As a senior student at Kentlake High School, I am not opposed to standardized testing as long as it serves a purpose. In the past these tests have been used as a way to separate children based on ability levels to determine academic success. The flaw in this system is that not every child tests the same way. Trying to force everyone to think the same as everyone else to pass is wrong.
Lastly, with the new standardized tests such as the iReady assessment and the SBA, the teachers don’t have the ability to decide what is important for these students to be tested on. The teachers should have a say in what topics will be discussed, and how the questions will be asked.
Furthermore, the test should benefit the teachers as well as the students.
