There’s an angel at Costco

Rain, rain, rain! Fall is definitely here in the Pacific Northwest, but errands don't stop just because the rains have come. On Saturday, Oct. 9, in the middle of the afternoon, I was at Costco purchasing 20 cases of bottled water (among other things) to stock the concession stands at French Field for the upcoming football games.

Rain, rain, rain! Fall is definitely here in the Pacific Northwest, but errands don’t stop just because the rains have come.

On Saturday, Oct. 9, in the middle of the afternoon, I was at Costco purchasing 20 cases of bottled water (among other things) to stock the concession stands at French Field for the upcoming football games. There were 35 bottles per case, weighing about 40 pounds each. Of course, it wasn’t raining when I left my house, nor was it raining when I entered the “big box store.” But, when I came out, it was a torrential Northwest downpour – of course! Dreading it as I was, I proceeded to my car, unlocked the doors and trunk, and began unloading my purchases from the semi-truck shopping cart into any available space in my sedan.

I was getting wetter by the second, and had only just begun, when the angel appeared. Along came a very nice man, who had a couple of delightful young ladies with him, fully dressed in their youth soccer uniforms. He must have seen the look of desperation on my face, because he stopped and very kindly asked: “Do you need help with that?” I could hardly believe my ears!

An offer for help on a pouring down rainy day? It didn’t take long for me to reply that I would, indeed, welcome his help! (I’m no fool!) I gave him a second chance to back out, reminding him that he’d be drenched by the time he was done. He wasn’t worried – he’d been at the girls’ soccer games all morning anyway. This angel – a tall, slender man with brown hair and a blue shirt – proceeded to load ALL of that water into my car. He also engaged the girls to help – teaching them life skills they’ll never forget – to lend a helping hand.

So, to the angel at Costco – thanks again!
