Two south King County cities about to be Hoodwinked! Normandy Park (NP) and Des Moines (DM) Parks and Recreation propositions would create two new permanent taxing bodies just like the Port of Seattle (POS).
Just like the POS they would be run by the current (in place) administration and staff. Doesn’t that make you feel good to have that mechanism in place? As property owners in both cities, we think our property taxes are TOOOOOOOO high now. These propositions will cost millions and millions into the future with no end and very little accountability.
This isn’t about parks and pool, it’s all about cash! Ask yourself how much more can you pay. This money will be controlled by the same people who are running our cities now. Our elected officials and administration need to prioritize our budgets. If the people think park and recs. are important (and we do) park and recs. should stay in the general fund as a priority item along with police and fire.
We believe that both cities need to do zero-based budgeting, in addition, performance audits in both cites are overdue along with workforce assessments. Unfortunately, that’s not the whole story. The current administrations wants more city staff and facilities. Normandy Park is pushing a new city hall, a new rec center, a new maintenance facility and additional staff. We say make do!
The crux of the situation is the real inability of our local city administrations to appreciate the scary economy we are living in.
We have decreasing revenues and out-of-control personnel cost along with demanding (tax-raising) county and state governments which are growing more and more out of control, making our financial situation even more unstable.
Families are losing their jobs and homes, Boeing is ready to leave and these people want to increase our taxes! We the people of NP and DM don’t need any more stress in our lives. No new taxes please!!
We say vote no on Prop. 1 in NP and DM! Be careful – don’t let yourself get hoodwinked! Don’t create a whole new taxing authority!
