The city’s action with the sex offenders is both harmful and shortsighted. Forcing them out of the clean and sober housing, where they have been living successfully for years with zero problems, accomplishes what?
If the city pushes them out of housing into the streets, they risk creating a dangerous situation. If the city doesn’t want the current arrangement to continue, what is their solution? Just pushing them out of the city is not a solution.
These people have served their time and are just trying to live their lives as best they can.
This is a problem, as a community, we have to address. If we are going to let them live, then they need a place to live. Allowing them a place to live where they can support each other to become productive members of society is the right thing to do. If we treat them like they are animals, how can we expect them to act like humans?
The stabbing in downtown Seattle is what happens when people are marginalized and they don’t get the assistance they need. All they want is a place to live. What are we going to do in response to this basic human need?
