The Kent Fire Department Regional Fire Authority will present the Gift of Life program at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, June 1 to the juniors and seniors of Kent Meridian High School.
This is an annual community program that demonstrates to students the consequences of drinking and driving, according to the Kent Fire Department. The goal of the program is to save lives, reduce injuries, and ultimately lower the chance of teens choosing to drink and drive or ride with someone who has been drinking.
Fire officials use a crash simulation with student actors and emergency response agencies (fire, police, medics, ambulance company, etc.) to create a DUI caused car crash that is choreographed to resemble what actually takes place at a major incident.
Following the simulated crash, a panel discussion of guests speaks to the students to discuss what was seen. Parents and community members are encouraged to attend the event at the parking lot next to French Field.
