Kentlake High School Drama Club presents “A Christmas Story, The Musical,” beginning Thursday, Dec. 1.

“A Christmas Story, The Musical” is based on the iconic 1983 movie “A Christmas Story”. It is the classic account of Ralphie Parker’s hilariously desperate quest to ensure that the most perfect of gifts ends up under his tree this Christmas – a Red Ryder Carbine-Action BB Gun. All the cherished moments are here – the Old Man’s leg lamp, the tongue-stuck-on-a-flagpole, the pink bunny suit, the Santa slide and all of Ralphie’s extravagant daydreams.

Enjoy the perennial favorite in a new way with this Tony-nominated Best Musical performed by the talented cast comprised of Kentlake High School students and middle and elementary school children from the Kent Community and Kent School District.

“When I first found out this musical was released for production, I knew we had to do it. The movie is a beloved Christmas tradition in our home,” said Pam Cressey, teacher and theater director of Kentlake Drama Club for 17 years. “I felt our Covington community would absolutely love this story and relate to it’s hilarious, yet down to earth characters and situations during the holidays. It’s chocked full of wonderful songs by (Benj) Pasek and (Justin) Paul and comes from a great book by Joseph Robinette. I was lucky enough to see it performed at the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle before it went off to Broadway and became a big hit.”

Shows start at 7 p.m. Dec. 1-2 and 8-9 and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Dec. 3 and 10, at Kentlake High School, 21401 SE 300th St., Kent.

Tickets are $12 general admission and $10 for senior citizens, students and children under 12, and can be purchased at the door or online at brownpapertickets.com. For more information, check out our website at kentlakedrama.com.
