The original band formed in 1964. The group popularized Southern rock in the 1970s. The band released the single “Free Bird” in 1974 and the song reached No. 19 on the Billboard Hot 100 list in 1975. The song can run as long as 14 minutes.
Three members of the group died in a plane crash in 1977. Guitarist Gary Rossington is the only original member still playing with the group.
Lynyrd Skynyrd was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland in 2006.
Opening acts for the Skynyrd concert are Shooter Jennings and the Texas Hippie Coalition.
