With more than a 100 young singers, three new ensembles and the addition of several talented staff members, Rainier Youth Choirs kicked off its eighth season, “Imagine.”
The choirs performed for families and friends on Thursday, Oct. 16, including RYC’s newly formed vocina choir, young women’s ensemble and young men’s ensemble.
“Rainier Youth Choirs is a treasure in the South Puget Sound Region,” said Karen Fulmer, national president of the American Choral Directors Association and RYC executive director. “The level of musicianship taught, the expertise of the staff and the quality of the music performed enhances area school music offerings and provides singers with an experience to grow as challenged musicians, pursuing a love and passion for choral music.”
The season continues with three performances:
• “Ring Out, Wild Bells”: 3 p.m. Dec. 13
• “Untraveled Worlds”: 2 p.m. March 15
• “Out of the Blue”: 2 p.m. May 31
Visit www.rainieryouthchoirs.org to purchase tickets for the concerts, which will be held at Kent United Methodist Church, 11010 SE 248th St.
RYC’s colla voce ensemble also will perform on the Dec. 11 Argosy Christmas Ship departing at 7 p.m. from Des Moines (www.argosycruises.com).
Rainier Youth Choirs is a nonprofit, community-based choral performance and music education offering family-friendly, chorus levels for singers in grades 2-14. RYC is sponsored in part by the Kent Arts Commission and 4Culture.
