Seattle Mist Quarterback Alicia McLauchlin hands the ball off during a last practice before the scrimmage Wednesday at Kent's ShoWare Center. The scrimmage was the final test for many players trying to make the 2009/2010 Seattle Mist roster.

The Seattle Mist, a team of the Lingerie Football League, had a training camp at Kent’s ShoWare Center this week, which culminated in a media day July 15 with a 7-on-7, full-contact team scrimmage. The scrimmage is a final test for many players as they try to make the 2009/2010 Seattle Mist roster.

A form of adult entertainment where women athletes play full-contact football in pads and lingerie, the Lingerie Football League has developed franchises across the country. The Seattle Mist, which will call the ShoWare Center home in its first-ever season, will have its opener Sept. 11 in Kent, versus the San Diego Seduction.

The Mist will play one other game at the ShoWare Center for their season: on Jan. 1, against the Dallas Desire.

Their two other games are away: Oct. 9 against the Denver Dream; and Nov. 27 versus the Los Angeles Temptation.

Fans also can will be able to watch LFL Friday Night Football action in 1080i high-definition on KMYQ (MyNetwork Television) Channel 22, 10 & 110.

The local presence of the franchise has generated cheers as well as jeers.

“I cannot WAIT! Have my season tickets already!! GO MIST. Anybody planning on tailgating, my buddies and I are getting there EARLY!” one reader wrote in an online comment to a Mist story on the Kent Reporter Web site.

“It’s an insult to women and to Kent. Please send these women to play their “games” in a place where they have the naked pole dancers and topless women. Not in Kent,” wrote Kent resident Pat Stevens, in a letter to the editor in April.

Like them or not, the Seattle Mist are calling Kent home.

“Seattle Mist fans will make ShoWare Center one of the toughest environments in the league for visiting teams,” said Mitchell S. Mortaza, founder and chairman of Lingerie Football League.

For tickets, go to the ShoWare Center Web site.
