Sunrise Musical Theatre’s presents the musical, “Honk! JR.” for three performances – 7 p.m. May 16 and May 17 and 5 p.m. May 18 – at Sunrise Elementary School, on Kent’s East Hill at 22300 132nd Ave. SE.
As part of Arts Education Month, the production carries an anti-bullying theme. Duck citizenship awards were distributed throughout the school. Bracelets are being sold.
The audience will follow the adventures of Ugly, whose odd, gawky looks incite taunting and teasing by his family and barnyard neighbors. Separated from the farm and pursued by a hungry cat, Ugly must find his way home. Along his rollicking and harrowing journey he not only discovers his true beauty and glorious destiny, but also finds love and acceptance in all its forms.
This witty and fun-loving musical emphasizes the importance of believing in oneself and accepting others as they are.
Honk! JR. is a contemporary retelling of Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Ugly Duckling”, with music by George Stiles and the book and lyrics by Anthony Drewe. Honk! JR. is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International.
Tickets are available for $5 per person at the door. Children under 5 are free.
