The Kent Lions and its foundation present a holiday tradition – Winterfest – at the Town Square Plaza on Saturday.

The celebration – A Christmas Gift from the Kent Lions to the Community of Kent – includes outdoor family activities on Second Avenue between Meeker and Smith streets, beginning at 2 p.m.; Santa’s House; live music; blowup seasonal balloons for photo opportunities; and a refreshment tent that will be open from 3:30 to 7 p.m. and includes hot cider and popcorn provided by the Kent Lions and hot chocolate from Kent Lutheran Church.

The Kent Library and its children’s librarian present a holiday reading at 3:30 p.m.

The highlight of the event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the lighting of the 35-foot Christmas tree and the Town Square, synchronized to music. Children who attend the Holiday Story Time at 3:30 p.m. will receive a VIP ticket for seating at the tree lighting.

The event is free to the public.

There will be no parade this year, according to organizers.

The Kent Station Santa House will be open and remain open for the remainder of the season.

Local choirs and school bands will add to the ambience with renditions of traditional and contemporary Christmas hymns and carols.

Media sponsors including Warm 106.9, MOViN 92.5, Rock 98.9 and AM 880 KIXI will provide activities and giveaways to guests.

Winterfest is presented with the help the city of Kent, Kent Station, Kent Downtown Partnership and the Kent Library.
