The Kent Regional Fire Authority, Firefighters Local 1747, the Kent Firefighters Foundation and volunteers helped deliver 6,000-plus donated gifts to local food banks through the Toys for Joy program.
Toys for Joy, a community supported effort for more than 20 years, collects, wraps and delivers toys to area food banks so that families in need can have a more cheerful holiday.
Hundreds of families lined up for hours Thursday morning, Dec. 22, outside Kent Lutheran Church, at 336 2nd Ave. S., for a chance to collect a share of community-donated toys and other gifts. It was the second straight year the spacious church served as a distribution center for the drive.
According to organizers, toys delivered to the Kent Food Bank served more than 2,000 children. Toys were also distributed in Covington and SeaTac – all parts of the Kent RFA’s response area. More than 200 pounds of food were also donated along with the toys.
The Kent RFA, Local 1747, the foundation and partners would like to thank everyone who supported the Toys for Joy program, especially the following companies:
• Reddaway Trucking for providing a semi-truck and trailer to store and transport the gifts.
• Door to Door Storage of Kent for providing the storage pods.
• Bowen Scarff Ford for providing a generous donation.
