She wasn’t expecting it when she signed up, but one of Brittany Stockton’s favorite classes at law school ended up being estate planning.

“I absolutely loved it. I enjoyed reading the cases, and then in the seminar I got to help my first client. She needed a Will and Estate Plan, and I felt such a sense of satisfaction giving her that peace of mind,” says Stockton, who’s now an attorney at Iddins Law Group in Kent.

Stockton is no stranger to deep research, hours of reading and complicated writing assignments, thanks to her Bachelor’s Degree in History from Whitman College. That’s served her well in her work in Estate Planning and Probate at Iddins Law Group, where she also gets to read, write, and hear true stories.

“When I sit down with clients I get to know not only about their assets, but also about their family and their life story. It’s a lot like history, plus I get to make a real difference in people’s lives.”

Friendly Kent law firm

After completing her undergraduate degree, Stockton worked for two and a half years in a public defenders office, where the attorneys around her saw her potential and encouraged her to go to law school. After years of study and successfully passing the bar in 2022, she’s very happy to have found a home at Iddins Law Group.

“I have the best boss and office manager I could possibly get. Everyone’s so personable here, we have each others’ backs, and it really feels like a family,” she says. “We care so much about our clients. We’re all very down-to-earth, and I’m not sure you’d find that at many other law firms.”

Estate planning tips

It can be uncomfortable to face end-of-life planning, but Stockton says that most of her clients are ready to have those difficult conversations by the time they come through her door. But even if they have the beginnings of a plan, there’s always more to think about during the initial consultation.

“Many people believe that if they have a Will, their estate won’t have to go through probate. But that’s not true! Upon your passing, most estates that are more than $100,000 are going to go through the probate process in Washington State. That means it’s important to have a strategic plan in place.”

With Stockton’s years of study, plus the ready collaboration of Iddins Law Group’s experienced staff, estate planning clients are in good hands.

“We aim to offer first-class customer service, and guide our clients through any challenges that may arise.”
