A five-vehicle collision along southbound Interstate 5 on Friday, June 21 in Kent injured five people, although just one had to be transported to a hospital.
“Amazingly no (serious) injuries,” Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The collision, near State Route 516, involved three cars and two trucks at about 11:48 a.m., according to the State Patrol. Lanes were blocked for 3 hours and 22 minutes during the investigation. Three vehicles were totaled.
A semi was traveling lane two of five southbound, sustained a flat tire, swerved to the left and struck the rear of another vehicle, according to the State Patrol. That vehicle then swerved to right and struck another vehicle.
The semi continued to the left and hit another vehicle, pushing it into the barrier and causing the car to roll several times. The semi then rolled, ended on its side and crashed through a barrier into lane five of northbound traffic.
Four people were treated at the scene for minor injuries. Paramedics transported one person to Valley Medical Center in Renton.
