A 43-year-old Auburn man faces federal and state charges for allegedly pimping a 15-year-old runaway girl he met last April at a Kent McDonald’s restaurant.

Nathan James Bonds, faces a March 17 trial date in King County Superior Court for promoting commercial sexual abuse of a minor and attempted promoting commercial sexual abuse of a minor, according to charging papers filed by county prosecutors.

Bonds also faces federal charges in U.S. District Court of sex trafficking of a juvenile and transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity. Bonds remains in custody in the federal detention center in SeaTac after being transferred March 5 from the county jail.

According to state and federal charging papers, Bonds met a 15-year-old runaway girl on April 13 at a McDonald’s in Kent. The girl told a Kent detective that the tall, skinny black man identified himself as “Slim,” and drove a white Cadillac with spinning rims on three tires and no rims on the fourth tire.

The girl said she told Slim she was 15. She agreed to let Bonds drop her off at a friend’s house. Bonds gave the girl his phone number. The next day the girl called Bonds to pick her up at the Kent Station shopping center. They drove around for several hours before Bonds reportedly took her to a SeaTac motel and forced her to have sex with him, according to charging papers.

The pair continued to hang out together and Bonds asked the girl if she would interesting in working as a prostitute to make “easy money.” The girl said she was scared to work as a prostitute but Bonds told her he would show her how to do it. He also asked her if she had any friends who might want to work as prostitutes. She said she knew a Kent girl, 16, who might want to do it.

Bonds and the younger girl met the friend at a 7-Eleven store on April 13 in Kent. Police confirmed through store surveillance video that Bonds drove his white Cadillac to the store.

The Auburn man on April 19 took the two girls to a Portland hotel to work as prostitutes, according to charging papers. Bonds took photographs of the two girls in sexually provocative poses to post in advertisements on backpage.com with a phone number. They stayed at the hotel for several days and both girls had several dates with men who responded to the ad.

The 15-year-old girl estimated she had sex in exchange for money with at least 10 men. She gave all of the money to Bonds, who provided her with the hotel room, fast food and clothes. Bonds told her to charge the men $100 for half an hour and $150 or $200 for an hour.

Bonds returned with the girls on April 21 to Seattle. The older girl returned to her mother’s house but the 15-year-old remained with Bonds and had more sex acts with men in a Seattle area hotel who responded to backpage.com ads. The younger girl eventually returned to her mother’s home.

Kent Police got the lead on the case when the older teen disclosed to her Kent school staff on April 23 that she had been with a pimp called Slim and her 15-year-old friend the previous weekend.

Police eventually tracked down Bonds, partly through the license plate of a Dodge Magnum he drove to Oregon, at a friend’s house in Mill Creek. The friend owned the Dodge. Snohomish County deputies arrested Bonds on June 5.

Bonds criminal history includes convictions for attempted possession of stolen property in 2007, negligent driving in 2007 and fourth-degree assault in 2006.
