Members of the Rotary Club of Kent demonstrated Tuesday their support for one of their own.
Rotarians and guests had their heads shaven to support fellow Rotarian Kay Cook, who is battling cancer, and to raise awareness and funds for Northwest Hope & Healing.
Rotarian Wade Schwartz and his staff from Blanc’n Schwartz provided the expert head shaving following the club’s gathering at Down Home Catering. Ten members and two guests volunteered to show that the side effects of the treatment process are temporary.
“That’s true for me,” said Cook, “but for some of these guys … well, they will always be bald.”
Cook is resolute in her fight.
“I want to show people that you are not necessarily down and out,” she said. “Life goes on.”
The club’s latest effort follows its deep-rooted mission to help others.
“Rotary is well known for its effort to eradicate polio internationally, as well as extensive fundraising for area youth scholarships or assisting with the homeless population in our community, but we are also committed to supporting our own when cancer strikes,” said Dawn Colston, president of the Rotary Club of Kent.
