Kent Police are investigating a pair of carjackings that occurred the evening of Jan. 21 in Kent.

Based on the description of the suspect in each case, police believe that the two incidents may be related, according to a Kent Police media release.

The first incident was reported at 7:45 p.m. Jan. 21 when the owner of a late model Ford 500 sedan was accosted in the parking lot of the Island Park Apartments in the 23500 block of 60th Avenue South.

The suspect, a black male adult wearing a mask, brandished a handgun while demanding the car. There were no injuries in the incident.

Thirty minutes later, Kent officers were called to a carjacking at the Heather Ridge Condominiums in the 9600 block of South 248th Street. In this case, a similarly described suspect used a gun to steal a Ford Ranger pickup from its owner. Once again, no one was hurt. Police found the truck a short time later.

“It’s very unusual to have two incidents of this nature, involving the same suspect, happen so closely together,” said Kent Police Lt. Pat Lowery.

Officers are continuing their examination of the truck they recovered for leads about the suspect as well as searching for the missing sedan.
