Take a special Sounder train from Kent to the State Fair in Puyallup on Sept. 19 and 26.

Sound Transit will operate special Sounder service to the Washington State Fair in Puyallup on Sept. 19 and 26, making it extra easy for Puget Sound residents to avoid gas and parking costs.

Special Sounder trains will service nine stations between Everett and Puyallup, including Kent on the two Saturdays. Passengers can get off at Puyallup Station and hop a free Pierce Transit bus to the fair’s Red Gate.

South line trains will stop in Tukwila, Kent, Auburn and Sumner before reaching Puyallup Station. The stops in Kent are at 10:09 a.m., 11:09 a.m. and 12:09 p.m. The cost between Kent and Puyallup is $3.50 each way.

Three return trains from the fair will leave Puyallup at 5:50 p.m., 6:50 p.m. and 7:50 p.m.

Riders can skip lines and save up to 20 percent on train and fair tickets by buying a Sounder Train Express Pack in advance at thefair.com/sounder. Express Packs include a round-trip train fare and State Fair admission, and are only sold online. Price is based on boarding location.

To purchase Express Packet tickets, riders can go to thefair.com/sounder, select “Sounder Train Express Pack – North” or “Sounder Train Express Pack – South” and follow the screen prompts. Tickets purchased online can be printed at home.

Riders also have the option of using their ORCA cards or buying train tickets at the stations. Pierce and King County riders can buy their train tickets at stations now.

As with all Sound Transit services, fares are discounted for children, seniors and people with disabilities. More information on special Sounder train service to the fair is available at soundtransit.org/soundertothefair.

State Fair hours, admission fees and other information can be found at thefair.com.

ORCA and all standing transit passes will be accepted. Cards only cost $5 for adults, plus whatever amount a rider chooses to load in the card’s E-Purse or the cost of a pass that is good for unlimited transit trips. ORCA works on trains, buses and ferries throughout the region. More information is available at orcacard.com.
