Groups that have formed neighborhood councils in Kent are eligible for matching grants from the city for community projects.
“The neighborhood matching-grant fund is a component of Kent’s Neighborhood Program, where residents are encouraged to work together to make improvements to their neighborhoods, develop a sense of community, and build relationships with each other,” said Toni Azzola, Kent’s neighborhood program coordinator. “The Matching Grant Fund gives residents a little extra incentive to do that.”
Projects eligible for grant funding include signage for neighborhood entrances and landscaping for traffic circles and retention ponds, even neighborhood newsletters.
Grant funds are awarded on a competitive basis.
The City is accepting matching-grant applications in two rounds, with due dates on April 1 and Sept. 1 for funding in 2009. Only recognized neighborhood councils are eligible to apply.
