The Consortium for School Networking (CoSN) bestowed its 2014 Team Award on the Kent School District at its annual conference in Washington, D.C. on Monday.
The award recognizes educators for their exceptional, transformative K-12 education technology efforts and achievements.
“The Kent School District continues to show what it takes to transform learning environments and advance professional development and student learning,” said Jean Tower, CoSN chair and director of technology for Public Schools of Northborough and Southborough, Mass.
The consortium praised the school district in the following statement:
Across middle and high school grades, the Kent School District has adopted a one-to-one program, ensuring that more than 12,000 students have access to instructional resources for anytime, anywhere learning. The program has produced a common classroom technology experience that enables instructional leaders to implement digital learning solutions district-wide and achieve high-impact learning. Kent keeps technology resources viable by replacing student and staff laptops every four years. In addition, the district is participating in dropout recovery efforts through iGrad, an individualized graduation and youth re-engagement program for students ages 16-21 that leverages technology to provide individualized learning targeted at graduation.
The district’s efforts extend beyond the classroom: It engages community stakeholders at multiple levels and uses technology resources to support these efforts through surveys, videos, websites, electronic newsletter subscriptions, and live events. The Kent School District has developed strong, sustained partnerships with local businesses, community-based organizations, and foundations to ensure their efforts remain a pillar of educational growth and achievement.
