The best things in life may be free, but some very good things will soon go up in price. Until Wednesday, Oct. 31, Regional Animal Services of King County is still waiving the adoption fee at its Kent facility for cats six months and older.

“Our goal was to adopt 200 cats and kittens during this special event, and we’re very close to reaching that number,” said Animal Services manager Gene Mueller. “The clock is ticking, so we encourage anyone who is thinking about adopting a cat to stop by the Pet Adoption Center soon.”

Normally $55, the adoption fee for cats older than six months is waived during this special event. The fee for kittens (younger than six months) remains at $100. All cats and kittens from Animal Services are spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and have tested negative for feline leukemia.

Adopters also receive a starter bag of Hill’s Science Diet food for their new pet, as well as a certificate for a free veterinary wellness exam, courtesy of the Seattle/King County Veterinary Medical Association.

People looking to adopt can view available pets by visiting www.kingcounty.gov/pets and clicking on “Adopt a Pet.” They also can visit the Pet Adoption Center, 21615 64th Ave. S. in Kent. Hours are 3-6 p.m. Monday, noon-6 p.m. Tuesday – Friday, and noon-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
