For the Reporter

Four people have been displaced following a house fire in the 18300 block of SE 261 Court, the Kent Regional Fire Authority reported.

Only one person was home at the time of the fire, which started on the second floor of the home at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday. That person was able to escape safely. Several pets, including a snake, lizard and cat died in the fire.

When firefighters from the Kent RFA and Maple Valley Fire Department arrived on scene, there was heavy smoke coming from the second floor of the home. Once they knew everyone was safe, firefighters were able to concentrate on keeping the fire from spreading to other parts of the house.

No other homes in the neighborhood were affected by the fire.

Also dispatched to the incident were Covington Police, King County Medic One, and the Zone 3 Fire Explorers.

The fire is under investigation.
