The Kent Regional Fire Authority firefighters responded to multiple reports of an apartment fire at the 22400 block of Benson Road SE on Kent’s East Hill.
The first arriving firefighters found a fire on the deck of a second floor apartment. The fire was quickly knocked down by hose streams from the ground. Crews then entered the apartment to search and extinguish any hidden fire inside the apartment and attic space. The fire was extinguished and contained to the one apartment unit.
The Kent fire Investigator confirmed that the fire started on the deck and got into the attic space through the soffit above the deck. Cause of the fire is still under investigation and damage has been estimated at $20,000.
The resident of the apartment was not at home at the time of the fire. The resident will be displaced by the damage to the apartment and will be relocated to another unit by the apartment management. No injuries to residents or firefighters were reported.
