Two Springbrook Elementary School students and their father were killed last Saturday evening in a two-vehicle car accident in southwest Washington while returning from a family vacation to the Columbia River Gorge.

Anatoliy Goy, 47, and Daniel Goy, 7, were killed instantly, when a 1997 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck driven by Heath Martin, 24, of North Bonneville, reportedly crossed the centerline of State Route 14 near North Bonneville at about 8 p.m. and collided head on with the Goy’s 2005 Toyota Sienna van, according to a report from the Washington State Patrol. Alex Goy, 9, died Monday at Legacy Emmanuel Medical Center in Portland.

The boys’ mother, Mariya Goy, 49, and brother, Andrey, 11, were both injured in the accident. Mariya was released from the hospital, while Andrey is still recovering, according to a statement from the family. All members of the Goy family wore seat belts.

Martin also died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the State Patrol.

The Goy’s older children, Vasiliy, 23, Serge, 21, and Mira, 17, who attends Kentridge High School, were not on the trip.

“For the Goy family, what started as a fun-filled Father’s Day weekend of laughter, smoothies and a boat tour, as the kids described it as ‘the best day of their lives’ quickly turned into a devastating tragedy,” the family said in a statement.

Daniel Goy just completed first grade at Springbrook in Kent and Alex finished fourth grade.

The boys’ friends and classmates created a small memorial, consisting of flowers, pictures, drawings and stuffed animals, in front of the school.

One drawing of a flower and the sun read, “I will miss you ALex and Danniel [sic]. I miss you. I feel sorry and you did good in the talent show.”

Kent School District Superintendent Calvin Watts said the accident impacted the entire district.

“To all who have worked with the Goy family and all of our friends and colleagues at Springbrook who are reeling from this news, please know the School Board and I support you and hold you in our thoughts and prayers…,” Watts said in an email to district staff on Tuesday. “This terribly sad news reminds us of the importance of the time we have with those we love and those we serve.”

Services for Anatoliy, Alex and Daniel will be 6 p.m. Sunday, June 28, at the Christian Faith Center, 33645 20th Ave S. in Federal Way. Burial is Monday, June 29, at 10 a.m. at the Mountain View Cemetery, 2020 Mountain View Dr. in Auburn.

A Go Fund Me online account to help cover funeral and medical expenses for the family raised nearly $60,000 by late Friday afternoon and had more than 750 donations in two days. Donations may also be made to the Goy Family Memorial Fund at any U.S. Bank branch.
