Six residents evacuated safely as firefighters prevented a fire that started on a back deck from spreading into their Kent home early Saturday morning, the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority reported.
Just before 12:34 a.m. a fire started at the home in the 11800 block of Southeast 275th Street.
According to Puget Sound Fire, a resident heard a breaker go off in her electrical panel switch, alerting her to check the house for any concerns. As she entered the living room, she saw the back porch fully involved with smoke and flames. She quickly yelled for the others in the home to exit out the front door and run to safety, Puget Sound Fire said.
All six residents made it out to safety and called 911.
The first fire unit on scene saw heavy flames on the back deck, pulled an “attack line” and began to put water on the fire. Additional units provided a connection of the larger hose from the attack fire engine to the closest fire hydrant, Puget Sound Fire said..
Crews then went to the interior of the home and were able to keep the fire from entering the house, Puget Sound Fire said.
Valley Regional Fire Authority responded along with Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority units.
South King County Medic One responded, but its services were not needed. The Red Cross helped the displaced residents, and ServPro weatherized and secured the home.
The fire is under investigation.
