Fire heavily damaged the attic space and roof of a Kent home at about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 23900 block of 43rd Avenue South on the West Hill.

A neighbor called 911 and reported smoke from the house, according to a Kent Fire Department media release. Valley Communications dispatched emergency units to the address to investigate and within a few minutes upgraded the call to a working house fire when the neighbor called back stating that smoke and flames were visible from the home.

The upgrade to a working fire dispatched additional fire department emergency units from Kent, SeaTac and South King County Fire and Rescue. The first arriving fire engine company reported smoke and flames from the back of the house and through the roof. A neighbor told the crew that the residents were not home. They had recently sold the home and were in the process of moving out.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. There are no damage estimates at this time. There were no injuries to firefighters.
