Fire crews put out a house fire Saturday on Kent’s West Hill in the 3600 block of South 268th Street.
A neighbor called 911 just before 7 a.m. Saturday and units from the Kent Fire Department Regional Fire Authority and South King Fire Rescue were dispatched. Before even arriving at the house, Engine 73 called for more resources when smoke was visible from several blocks away, according to Kent Fire Department media release.
Multiple units from Kent and South King Fire along with King County Medic One and the Zone 3 Rehab unit responded with the upgrade.
Neighbors informed the first fire crew that no one lived in the house. Fire could be seen from the street coming through the roof and eaves. Firefighters started applying water from the outside of the house, at the same time ensuring the neighboring homes were not involved.
That initial fire attack appeared very affective while another crew made its way inside to attack the fire. A quick and thorough search confirmed that no one was inside the house. The fire was put out in about 25 minutes after the 911 call was placed.
Although no one lived at the house, the owners were notified and showed up. There were no injuries. Fire investigators have yet to determine a cause. A recent renovation of the house was nearly complete at the time of the fire. The loss estimate is $180,000.
