For the Reporter
Area firefighters extinguished a fire that severely damaged a mobile home in the 24400 block of 64 Avenue South on Sunday afternoon.
Firefighters from the Kent Regional Fire Authority, responding to the call of a fire first reported at 1:38 p.m., could see a large black column of smoke from several blocks away. When they arrived, they were informed that no one was home, but that there was a dog inside. It took firefighters 15 minutes to fully extinguish the fire, which had burned through the sides and roof of the mobile home.
A search confirmed that no one was home. The body of the dog was found in a back bedroom.
Because of the amount of damage to the home and the fact that the occupants have not arrived at the scene, the investigation may be prolonged.
In addition to the Kent RFA, King County Medic One, Kent PD, and the Zone 3 Rehab One unit responded to the fire.
