Residents quickly evacuated a fire Wednesday morning in their Kent apartment that started in the kitchen before it spread into the living room.
The fire started at about 7:27 a.m. on a ground-floor apartment at the Sterling Ridge Apartments in the 11300 block of SE Kent Kangley Road, according to a Puget Sound Fire news release.
Puget Sound Fire Engine 74 arrived to find flames coming out of the front door. Firefighters entered and extinguished the fire, keeping it to the single unit. The units above and surrounding the apartment sustained minor smoke damage.
The residents were unharmed and received assistance from the American Red Cross. The management team of the complex secured the unit and offered another apartment for the family to move into.
Puget Sound Fire was able to control and extinguish the fire without requesting help from other agencies.
