Firefighters from three fire departments contained a brush fire at about 4:41 p.m. Wednesday in the 30400 block of 148th Avenue Southeast in unincorporated Kent.

A passerby reported the brush fire just south of Southeast 304th Street and east of Highway 18 and Pacific Raceways. The fire grew to approximately one acre before fire crews stopped the spread of flames through the light brush, tall grasses and stumps, according to a media release from King County Fire District 44, which serves Black Diamond and unincorporated Kent and Auburn.

A King County fire investigator is trying to determine the cause of the fire.

About 25 personnel from the Kent Fire Department Regional Fire Authority, District 44 and the Auburn-based Valley Regional Fire Authority attacked the fire. Four engines, two brush trucks and two water tender trucks responded to the fire.

There were no structures in the path of the fire that had the potential to grow larger to the south and west before firefighters extinguished it.

Firefighters utilized lighter-weight brush gear instead of the much heavier “turnout” coats and pants worn into structure fires due to the 88 degree temperature. The incident commander and safety officer ensured that firefighters rehydrated regularly.
